What if my vehicle does not pass inspection?

If your vehicle does not pass its inspection, don’t panic. RMS allows owners 14 days after eSafety checks are issued to rectify any problems identified and to have the vehicle reinspected. You do not need to pay the full inspection fee again, Just a sign off fee which depends on your location.

How often do I need eSafety inspections for my car?

An eSafety (or pink slip) inspection report verifies your vehicle is safe and ready for the road. Most light vehicles more than 5 years old will require an eSafety check before they can be registered in NSW. Your registration renewal papers will state whether or not you need an inspection.

What happens at the inspection?

When your vehicle passes the eSafety check, your mechanic will send the report to Roads and Maritime Services electronically.
If the vehicle fails the inspection, you have 14 days to rectify any issues and to call us back to schedule a re-inspection.
AUVIS inspection reports are valid for 42 days from the date of inspection. This means that you’ll need to use the report to conduct a transaction with Roads and Maritime within 42 days of having the inspection.
